Dr. Sharmaine M. McCoy

Dr. Sharmaine M. McCoy, DNP, ACNP-BC is a cardiovascular nurse practitioner, researcher, educator, and community health leader dedicated to advancing health equity through clinical innovation, implementation science, and community partnerships. With more than 25 years of nursing experience and nearly 20 years as a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, she has specialized expertise in cardiovascular disease prevention, women's cardiovascular health, cardio-obstetrics, hypertension management, and community-engaged research.

Dr. McCoy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hampton University, her Master of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University. She is a published author and national speaker whose work focuses on women's cardiovascular health, maternal cardiovascular disease prevention, hypertension, implementation science, and reducing health disparities through community-engaged models of care.

For more than a decade, Dr. McCoy has served in the Health Ministry at Mount Olive Baptist Church and currently serves as its Director. She co-leads the Helping Everyone Access Resources for Total Heart Health (HEART) initiative, an innovative faith-based, community-driven program that addresses food insecurity, identifies undiagnosed hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors, increases health literacy, and connects community members with preventive healthcare services through trusted partnerships with healthcare systems and community organizations.

In addition to her clinical and community leadership, Dr. McCoy is the founder of Solutions for Health, Access, and Resources (SHAR PLLC) , a consulting practice being developed to support organizations in advancing health equity through strategic planning, implementation science, grant development, and community engagement.

Through every aspect of her work, Dr. McCoy is committed to building healthier communities by bridging clinical excellence, research, and faith-based partnerships to create sustainable, equitable improvements in cardiovascular health.
