Vanessa Alvarez

Vanessa Alvarez is a first-generation Mexican American college graduate dedicated to advancing health equity and improving access to care in underserved communities. She earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from George Mason University, where she focused on preventive medicine and health disparities.

Throughout her public health training, Vanessa worked with community-based organizations and healthcare systems to expand access to preventive services, particularly among uninsured and Spanish-speaking populations. Through her work with the HEART Program, she conducted blood pressure screenings and health education initiatives that reached hundreds of community members across Northern Virginia. Her work has also included research on healthcare access and diversity in clinical trial participation.

In addition to her public health experience, Vanessa has worked as a Neuro-Ophthalmology Medical Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant in Biostatistics, gaining valuable clinical, research, and educational experience. She was recognized with the Graduate Award for Overall Excellence for her academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to service.

Vanessa will begin her medical education at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Virginia Campus (VCOM), where she plans to pursue a career focused on primary care and improving healthcare access for medically underserved populations. Her long-term goal is to combine clinical medicine and public health to address health disparities and promote equitable healthcare for all.
